Working with the Events and Arts Teams at the Council, FTF undertake artistic commissioning and engagement work, to an annual commissioning budget of £140,000.
In 2017 FTF delivered a critically acclaimed programme for Arts by the Sea, which attracted a higher than ever level of footfall to the town. This included a wide range of sell-out events, including a fiery torchlit parade and waterfront spectacular (in partnership with outdoor arts specialists and NPO Walk the Plank) and an international commission from the Compagnie de Quidams.
The 2017 programme was developed by FTF to include a Fringe Festival to accommodate the rapidly increasing number of creative contributors to the event. Hallmark events in the wider 2017 programme included a takeover of the Bournemouth Town Hall (via Hydromania, by Avanti Display), a parade of illuminated umbrellas by Cirque Bijou and a brand new, site specific sound and light installation at the end of Bournemouth Pier by the associate artist Will Simpson.
Responding to a separate brief to deliver the 2017 festival and lead in the completion of the festival’s NPO funding application, FTF successfully secured 1.2 million pounds in funding to secure the future of the event over a four-year period (2018-2021).
